Business Travel: A Health Risk?
Study finds frequent travelers more likely to be obese.
Need motivation to book hotels with gyms and heart-healthy menus, as well as investigate stress-management techniques? Here’s some food for thought: Researchers at Columbia University reviewed data on 13,000 people who took part in a corporate wellness program. About 80 percent of them traveled at least one night per month, and 1 percent traveled more than 20 nights per month. The study found that the more people traveled, the more their health problems increased. Obesity was 92 percent more common in those who traveled extensively, as were high blood pressure and higher cholesterol levels. Unhealthy eating, poor sleep and inactivity, coupled with high stress, were responsible for poor health.
