Facial Recognition for Airport Checkin

Don’t like downloading your boarding pass into your smartphone? One day you may be able to leapfrog that technological step. The future may bring e-gates that recognize passengers’ faces and irises before allowing them to board planes. The technology, developed by Silicon Valley-based AOptix, has been tested at California’s San Jose International Airport. AOptix already makes e-gates that identify passengers based on an iris scan alone, used at airports in Britain and Qatar. To add facial recognition, a scanner maps an enrollee’s face and eyes in seconds. Biometric data stored in computers is synced to bar codes on boarding passes or other documents, the company said.
