How to Consolidate Your Itineraries Online
If you’re a DIY traveler who researches and buys from multiple travel providers, you may end up with a stack of printouts with flight, hotel and rental car confirmations, maps, directions, weather forecasts and so on. That’s a lot of paper. Instead of throwing it all in a folder, check out a new online service that will automatically organize all of your travel information into a master itinerary—no matter where you booked the trip. TripIt (tripit.com), founded by two former Hotwire executives, “can do a lot of the dirty work of travel organization,” says a spokesperson. “Our goal is for TripIt to be like a great personal assistant and take care of all the details, so that travelers don’t have to.” Users forward travel confirmation emails to the TripIt Web site, and the TripIt Itinerator instantly incorporates them into a master itinerary. TripIt then automatically adds daily weather forecasts, local maps and directions, destination information and other useful tidbits. Travelers can access their information online, in printed form, via a mobile device or in a calendar. TripIt users can also create networks of TripIt “friends” who can view each other’s travel calendars. Best of all, the whole service is free.
