New Hotel Soap Donation Program
Partly used bars are given to developing nations and homeless shelters.
Soap makers such as Procter & Gamble and Unilever have seen a huge spike in fuel and raw materials costs, and are passing price increases along to consumers—so you may want to start taking your gently used hotel soap home with you. But in case you don’t, Starwood Hotels has begun donating leftover soap to Clean the World Foundation, a nonprofit organization that recycles the soap for distribution to developing nations and homeless shelters. Other individual hotels also participate in the program. About one million partly used bars of soap are tossed out daily by U.S. hotels, according to Clean the World.
