Portugal's Best New Hotels

This year, more than 35 new hotels and resorts will open in Portugal (visitportugal.com), with another 80 under construction or renovation, many of them with four or five star ratings and adherence to new criteria for sustainability and environmental impact. Portugal is proving popular with American visitors—the country cites a 40 percent increase in U.S. arrivals over the past three years. In other lodging news, Hong Kong-based Langham Hotels intends to invest $1 billion in new properties, primarily in the Asia Pacific region. In North America, the company will open the Langham Place Resort and Spa in Port St. George, Bahamas, in 2013.
