Airline honors its ultimate frequent flyer.

When George Clooney’s character in the movie Up in the Air reached 10-million-mile status, he received Champagne on board and a congratulatory sit-down visit with American Airlines’ chief pilot. But what happens to these über-travelers in real life? Tom Stuker from Bloomingdale, Ill., reached 10 million miles this year, and his name was painted on the side of a United Airlines B-747 jet. The car sales consultant got the obligatory in-flight Champagne, and upon landing was presented with the first titanium Mileage Plus membership card by United CEO Jeff Smisek. Stuker, who joined Mileage Plus in 1982, has flown 5,962 flights, visiting all 50 U.S. states and completing 200 round trips to Australia and about 30 to Asia.
