New business hotels in NYC, Chicago, Baltimore; Armani debuts in Milan
In new of hotel openings and rebrandings this month, Hyatt, Radisson and Four Seasons have new properties in key U.S. business markets, while Armani adds a very stylish property in Milan, InterContinental has a new Russian location, Ritz-Carlton comes to Saudi Arabia and Hyatt opens three locations in the Mideast and Asia.
• In the U.S., Hyatt has a newly built hotel in New York City, on the East Side of Manhattan at 48th Street and Lexington Ave. Called the Hyatt 48 Lex, it’s a boutique property with 116 studios and suites, and iPads available to borrow; rates start at $495 … Four Seasons Hotels’ newest property opens this month in Baltimore; the 18-story hotel, with 256 rooms and suites, is along the city’s harborfront, within walking distance of Fells Point and Little Italy …
There are plenty of Radisson hotels in the U.S., but its European affiliate, a brand called Radisson Blu, hasn’t had any – until now. Chicago’s new Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel occupies the first 18 floors of the 81-story Aqua Tower, a mixed-use high-rise located along the Chicago River at Lake Michigan. It boasts an indoor lap pool, basketball court and a movie screening room … In Pittsburgh, the Radisson hotel in the city’s Green Tree borough has been rebranded as a DoubleTree by Hilton … On November 30, the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City will join the Starwood family as the Sheraton Crown Center … Kimpton Hotels’ former Hotel Palomar in Atlanta has been converted into the Renaissance Midtown Atlanta … Omni Hotels has cut the ribbon on a huge new property in Dallas. The Omni Dallas Hotel, with 1,001 guest rooms, is linked by a skybridge to the Dallas Convention Center; if you don’t want to walk across the bridge, the hotel has 11,000 square feet of meeting space itself … In Houston, the seven-year-old Hotel Icon has joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection of affiliated independent properties … DoubleTree by Hilton has added two more member hotels that were converted from other brands. The DoubleTree by Hilton Raleigh-Cary in Cary, N.C. was formerly a Four Points by Sheraton; it’s located between downtown Raleigh and Research Triangle Park. And the DoubleTree by Hilton in Baton Rouge, La., five miles from downtown and from LSU, was formerly the Aspen Suites Hotel … In Los Angeles, the former Ramada Limited at 611 S. Westlake Ave. has been converted into the Holiday Inn Express Downtown West; it’s close to the offices of Kaiser Permanente, Northrop Grumman and Boeing.
• In Europe, the second Armani hotel (the first is in Dubai) opened this month in Milan, reflecting the sensibilities of designer Giorgio Armani. The 95-room Armani Hotel Milano – which features a spa, gourmet restaurant and business center – is in the Manzoni 31 building in the Quadrilatero della Moda district … Amsterdam’s newest hotel is the Conservatorium, a 129-room property in the Museum Quarter; it was built into a 110-year-old former conservatory … In the U.K., there’s a new Radisson Blu hotel at the East Midlands Airport … Slated to debut in Russia this month is the InterContinental Moscow Tverskaya, close to the Kremlin and the Bolshoi Ballet; it has 203 rooms and a signature restaurant with Russian cuisine … Much farther east in Russia, Marriott has opened its first hotel in Siberia – a Courtyard by Marriott in the center of Irkutsk, close to Kirov Square … In the Middle East, Ritz-Carlton has added its first property in Saudi Arabia. The 493-room Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh is next to the diplomatic quarter and adjacent to the King Abdul Aziz Convention Centre; accommodations include 50 one-bedroom executive suites of more than 1,000 square feet … Hyatt has added its first property in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates. It’s the 306-room Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, on the island of Saadiyat not far from the city’s business district … Elsewhere in Abu Dhabi, the Yas Hotel has joined the Viceroy Hotels group; it’s now called the Yas Viceroy … Due to open in India this month is a 250-room JW Marriott in Bangalore, close to the city’s commercial center … The French lodging group Sofitel has cut the ribbon on a five-star hotel in Mumbai; the Sofitel Mumbai BKC is close to the Bandra Kurla Centre commercial district … In China, Hyatt has brought its Andaz luxury brand to Shanghai. The 28-story Andaz Shanghai is in the Xintiandi district, on the edge of the former French Concession …There’s a new Sheraton in Daqing, China, in the country’s northernmost Heilongjiang Province … Newly opened in Thailand is the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa; located along the Chaophraya River, it used to be the Bangkok Marriott Resort … The Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa has opened in Vietnam; it’s on a stretch of beach 15 minutes from the Danang Airport … Opening this month in Indonesia is the Pullman Jakarta Central Park, in the Podomoro City Super Block … A luxury boutique hotel called The Darling has opened in Sydney, Australia; it’s located near Sydney Harbour with views of the skyline and Harbour Bridge … In South America, a mid-November debut is slated for Hilton’s first managed full-service hotel in Bogota, Colombia; the 15-story Hilton Bogota is 25 minutes from the airport in the financial district … And in Central America, Wyndham Hotels has opened the 98-room TRYP San Jose Sabana in the heart of San Jose, Costa Rica.
