United/Continental and ANA begin transpacific joint venture

Members of United’s Mileage Plus and Continental’s OnePass frequent flyer programs can now earn the same mileage benefits on flights of Japan’s ANA that they would receive on United or Continental flights, as part of the new joint venture between the carriers that started this month. The same applies for members of ANA’s program when flying on United or Continental. And elite-level members of all three programs can now accumulate bonus miles on any of the three airlines’ flights, United Continental Holdings said. The transpacific joint venture – similar to one that also started this month between American and Japan Airlines -- permits United, Continental and ANA to coordinate fares, schedules and sales/marketing efforts. It links up 295 U.S. cities with 43 Japanese cities via 11 transpacific routes operated by the three airlines. The transpacific markets include LAX-Tokyo Narita, operated by United and ANA; LAX-Tokyo Haneda, operated by ANA; San Francisco-Narita (United and ANA); SFO-Osaka Kansai (United); Seattle-Narita (United); Houston-Narita (Continental); Chicago-Narita (United and ANA); New York-Narita (Continental and ANA); Washington Dulles-Narita (United and ANA); Honolulu-Narita (United and ANA); and Honolulu-Haneda (ANA).
