Travelers who want access to Washington’s close-in Reagan National Airport will find more of it on US Airways this year and less on Delta. The two airlines recently finalized a big “slot swap” in which US Airways gained rights to operate 42 more flights a day at congested DCA, while Delta picked up enough US Airways slot pairs to add 132 flights a day at New York LaGuardia. US Airways started service to several new cities from DCA in March and will add more in July. It is also adding gates and a second US Airways Club at the airport.

Meanwhile, work continues on construction of a rail link to the more distant Washington Dulles International Airport. Phase 1, to be finished in 2013, will extend the line 11.5 miles from East Falls Church, Va., as far as Reston, Va., with stops in Tysons Corner. The second phase will take the line another 11.6 miles to the airport and beyond into Loudoun County, Va. On the lodging scene, a new luxury Capella hotel is coming to Georgetown—the 49-room boutique property at 1050 31st Street NW is due to debut by the end of this year. Meanwhile, a 2014 opening is slated for a new headquarters hotel for the Washington Convention Center. It’s the 14-story, 1,175-room Washington, D.C., Marriott Marquis, going up right across the street from the center.
