American tests cashless in-flight purchases
From September 10 through the end of the month, American Airlines said it will conduct market testing of a cashless in-flight payment system on some 700 flights out of San Francisco. During the test, passengers on those flights will only be able to use credit or debit cards for purchase of headsets, food and alcoholic drinks. Last year, American started accepting credit and debit cards in addition to cash payments for in-flight purchases, but it hasn’t yet moved to a plastic-only environment. Flight attendants will be able to provide receipts upon request for the credit card payments.
