ATA reportedly plans to drop LGA, DCA service

ATA Airlines, Southwest’s only code-share partner, reportedly plans to discontinue its service to both New York LaGuardia and Washington Reagan National in January. That’s the word from USA Today, which said it obtained an internal ATA memo describing the changes. ATA flies to both airports from Chicago Midway; the two code-shared routes represent Southwest’s only access into those two east coast airports. The memo reportedly said that ATA was facing too much pricing pressure on the routes in spite of achieving high load factors. The airline also will discontinue its one-stop service from Chicago Midway to Honolulu that operates via Ontario, Calif. The planes ATA uses on those routes reportedly will be reassigned to charter duties.
