Ads coming to baggage carousels

Tactic will begin at DFW in August

Airline travelers have already been subjected to advertising messages almost everywhere they turn. Depending on the airline, flyers have seen ads not only in in-flight magazines, but also on tray tables, on overhead bins, even on the exterior of their aircraft. Ads are also ubiquitous on the walls of passenger terminals at major airports, and now a Salt Lake City-based company plans to bring ads to baggage carousels. Starting in August, travelers at Dallas/Ft. Worth International will start to see the new advertising venue, thanks to DoubleTake Marketing. DoubleTake said that its new technique will permit it to show a large banner advertisement on the moving part of the carousel without altering the equipment. “Baggage carousel advertising is unique, as it is the only medium where travelers wait 15-plus minutes for their luggage to arrive,” said DoubleTake executive VP Tracy Zwahlen. “Friends and family meeting the traveler wait as well, and also see the moving ads.”
