President Bush has personally intervened in the problems of overcrowded skies and long tarmac waits, demanding DOT action (see this week's story, above). Our question for this week: How confident are you in the ability of the Bush Administration to bring about a solution to the problems of flight delays and passengers being “imprisoned” on long ground holds? Not in my lifetime! DOT will appoint a panel to select a commission, that will issue a study, after 2 or 3 years, that will tell us what we already know, such as NYC area airports are to small to handle the volume, FAA technology for air traffic control is outdated, understaffed, and existing staff are overworked, most delays caused by weather, in any event. The US General Accountability Office...has issued 100s of recommendations over the last 30 years regarding all these issues...just search their web site, USGAO.gov Oh, and the public wants cheap airfares.
