The head of the Federal Communications Commission said the FCC’s ban on in-flight cell phone use aboard airliners is likely to remain in place, since the agency hasn’t been convinced such activity won’t interfere with ground-based cell networks. Do you think cell phone usage should be banned in flight? Or do consider the ability to make and receive cell calls in the air to be an important tool for business travelers who spend much of their time flying?

" Since the lead in to your questions talks about the "technical" aspects of in-flight cell phones usage, I feel that I, along with 99.9% of rest of the general public, have no business even attempting to answer these questions, once again, on a technical basis. Now, if want the general public to pontificate on the in-flight cell phone usage WITH THE ASSUMPTION it would not technically interfere with the critical ground-base and air communications, then that's a total different scenario. Given that, I'm in agreement with just about every response thus far. Short of official personnel in an emergency situation, the last thing I want to be subjected to is someone talking non-stop on their cell phone. Some people are just clueless about their surroundings and the rudeness they create by talking on their cell phones in public. If the general public and/or airlines really want to have in-flight cell phone usage, the only way I can see (hope) this would happen is if the airlines were to partition off and designate a special section of the plane where cell phones can be used, otherwise, turn the phone off and do whatever you normally do on a plane. .... Read a book, magazine, newspaper, write a letter, take a nap, watch the in-flight movie, meditate, talk to your travel mate or neighbor, play cards, etc.
