The Registered Traveler program -- offering expedited security clearance to persons who get a biometric ID and pay about $100 to join -- is picking up steam, due to expand soon to major airports like LaGuardia, San Francisco, Washington Dulles and more. If you’re an RT member, do you like the program? If not, will you join as it expands to more airports? Post your comments here.

"This is a service that ought to be free to frequent flyers, Law enforcement officers, and any one with a DOD security clearance. It reduces TSAs workload and costs. Why should we pay for it. No, I won't spend my money or the companies. I'll try to stay with lower volume airports." It might reduce costs in the long term, but I think it will be expensive to set up, and I think it's reasonable to ask the passengers who are getting an extra benefit from it (saving time, at a higher level of service) to help fund the extra cost to get it up and running. That's especially meaningful if private companies are providing the services. Don't get me wrong - I fly 40 times a year and would love the time savings - but I don't think it should fall to the taxpayers to create a higher service level for this top tier of travelers.
