Government should either fully regulate the airline industry or get out of the airline industry - their half baked attempt at regulation is contributing significantly to the current woes. I would prefer the government get out of the business of business. The second major problem is unions - with the most senior pilots making an outrageous $500k+ (in pay and benefits) - they are driving next generation buses and should be paid a reasonable salary for a full time job (if they can stay awake and stay sober.) Unions will take airlines the same place they took Detroit's auto industry - oops, I guess they already have... They certainly are not qualified to run an airline or call for the replacement of United's CEO.
