Allegiant Air plans big expansion to Phoenix area and Ft. Lauderdale

Allegiant Air, a low-cost carrier that specializes in service from mid-sized and smaller cities into Las Vegas, Orlando and St. Petersburg-Clearwater, said it plans to add flights from a number of cities into two more leisure-oriented destinations this fall: The Phoenix area (actually Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz.) and Ft. Lauderdale. It won’t begin to unveil specific routes until August 9 and beyond, but Allegiant did say it will start flying to Phoenix-Mesa on October 25 “from 13 markets already served by the carrier,” and to Ft. Lauderdale on November 14 from 12 markets, 11 of them already on Allegiant’s route map. Allegiant currently serves more than 50 cities in the U.S., with 42 routes into Las Vegas, 26 to Orlando and 14 to the Tampa Bay area.
