American applies for code-sharing with Indian carrier
American Airlines has filed an application with the Transportation Department to begin a code-sharing partnership with Jet Airways, an Indian airline that recently started flying to the U.S.
American said it wants the code-sharing to start on January 18. Initially,
American would put its AA code on certain Jet Airways domestic flights within India from its Delhi hub, for connecting passengers from
American’sAmerican’s non-stop Chicago-Delhi service.
And Jet Airways’ code would go on select
American flights out of its terminal at
New York JFK, which is used by the Indian carrier. “In addition,
American and Jet Airways will code-share and cooperate on traffic between the
United States and India that connects at Brussels Airport,”
American said. Jet’s U.S.-India flights operate via a stop in Brussels.
