Seat availibility

I have noticed that several of the flights I checked were said to be available but when I go to seating it shows that all seats have been sold or cannot be issued at this time. What gives? Is this a sign the airline has overbooked the flight?

Thanks for your reply jimglab! I happen to have time on my hands this one particular day and wonder if the fact that the airline shows no availible seats for the flight to be a good chance for me to offer to be "bumped" in return for a travel voucher?
