Renowned as the worlds best airline and certainly in my experince of travelling over 200 days per year to Asia/ Europe/ South Africa and Australia,Singapore Airlines is the model airline.
However they have "screwed the pooch" and driven away loyal SIA flyers in their droves. Seems that they got sick of people flying once a week Singapore to Penang and getting status in their PPS club so they decided to make only business/first class flights count towards PPS status. Now most companies are imposing economy travel under 9 or 7 hours which is reasonable so for the frequent traveller use of the club before and after flight is important. So essentially you accrue no benefit nor can achieve status credits if you fly economy. From a great airline this is incredibly bad customer positioning and one that will hurt them. I can understand why they decided to act on this but the solution would have been to put a 5 hour min flight time i.e. if you fly more than 5 hours no mattewr what the class then the PPS status points apply less than that you get none. Or do what Qantas have done , have a tiered status points system whereby the higher the class of travel the greater the points you get. Its a very poorly custoimer oriented solution from an airline that prides itself on service and style. |
