CincinnatiFor years Cincinnati carried the rather unromantic nickname Porkopolis. More recently (and happily) the city was redubbed Queen City from a very romantic source: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow called it Queen of the West in his poem “Catawba Wine.”
Today, it seems increasingly evident that Longfellow had it right.


Seated on the banks of the Ohio River, Cincinnati is a city of neighborhoods with a solid Midwest sensibility. Yet it has earned a national reputation. Accolades have ranged from U.S. Family Travel Guide’s rankings of family attractions to being in the top 10 list of “Cities that Rock” by Esquire magazine.

Cincinnati ZooThe city is easy to get to. It’s a short drive from other Midwest metro areas (70 miles from Lexington, 100 from Indianapolis, 220 from Cleveland and 230 from Detroit). And for those flying, Delta Air Lines (800-221-1212, www.delta.com) operates a hub at Cincinnati International. Once you arrive, count on Executive Transportation (800-990-8841) to get you downtown in style with limousine service. Then let the fun begin.

Cincinnati is a satisfying destination because--along with its many surprises--a three-day trip gives a thorough introduction to the city. An easy way to get organized is to give each day a focus.
