Continental details route cutbacks
Biggest capacity cuts will be at Cleveland hub
Continental Airlines has followed up on last week’s announcement that it would reduce domestic capacity 11 percent this fall by releasing a list of specific routes it will eliminate. Although it’s the smallest of Continental’s hubs, Cleveland will take the biggest hit, with a 13 percent capacity reduction. Effective September 3, Continental said, it will drop the following routes from Cleveland: Austin, Birmingham, Charleston (S.C.), Charleston (W. Va.), Cincinnati, Des Moines, Detroit, Green Bay, Greensboro, Lexington, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Norfolk, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Ottawa, San Antonio, San Diego, Sarasota, Savannah (Ga.), Toledo, Tulsa and Washington Dulles. At its Newark hub, Continental will end international service to Cologne, Germany and to Santiago in the Dominican Republic. Domestic routes to be dropped at Newark include Albuquerque, Sarasota, Salt Lake City, San Jose and Tucson. At its Houston Bush Intercontinental hub, Continental will drop Latin American routes to Cali, Colombia; Guayaquil, Ecuador; and Monclava, Mexico. It will also end Houston routes to Chattanooga, Hartford, Montgomery, Oakland, Palm Springs, Reno, Sarasota, Tallahassee, and Washington Dulles. The airline will also end its service from Guam to Bali in Indonesia. Continental said it will contact passengers booked on any of those routes after September 3 to make alternate arrangements.
