Delta's improved 737s

Carrier revamps economy cabins on long-haul models

Delta Air Lines has been rolling out more comfortable coach seats on B737-800 aircraft roughly every two weeks since last October, and will continue to do so through May 2008. The economy seats on the aircraft, which fly transcontinental routes, gain up to 1.5 inches of personal space, with additional under-seat storage and ergonomically designed cushions. Each seat has Delta on Demand, a digital entertainment system with up to 25 first-run and classic movies, 18 channels of live satellite TV on domestic routes and stored TV programs on international routes, HBO on demand, a variety of music selections, a suite of 12 video games and interactive trivia. By June 2008, Delta expects to add the functionality to an additional 95 aircraft. The carrier also began selling meals by Boston celebrity chef Todd English on domestic flights that travel 2,000 miles or last approximately four hours or more. By spring, his meals will also be available for purchase on flights of more than 1,025 miles, and his snacks will be offered on flights of more than 750 miles.
