Delta's menu enhancements
Delta upgrades domestic food-for-purchase
Delta Air Lines has recruited celebrity chef Todd English to enhance the menu items in the airline’s food-for-purchase program for domestic economy class travel. Delta will introduce the upgraded selections September 13 on transcontinental flights between New York JFK and Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle. By November, the fancier food will be on all domestic flights of 2,000 miles or more, and it will be expanded to shorter trips by next spring. “Customers will still receive complimentary snacks on all flights of more than 250 miles and on Delta Connection flights,” a spokesman said. The Todd English creations, priced from $2 to $10, will include various fresh sandwiches, salads and “light bites,” the airline said, mentioning a few examples: a smoked salmon and egg salad croissant; roast beef steak cobb sandwich; chicken and avocado wrap; and a beet, walnut, manchego and spinach salad. Meanwhile, celebrity chef Michelle Bernstein, who has been creating food for Delta’s international BusinessElite cabins since last year, will debut her menu selections on Delta domestic first class on September 13, in those same transcontinental markets.

It's nice to see an airline is starting to recognize that the in-flight experience matters. I hope Delta will consider provding passengers who pay full coach fares with vouchers for free meals/snacks. We should get something for that premium.
