Planes will also get WiFi by spring

Delta said it plans to reconfigure the nine MD88s used in its northeast corridor Delta Shuttle operation into two-class service starting December 1. Some of the reconfigured aircraft might start showing up on the LaGuardia-Boston and LaGuardia-Washington Shuttle routes in November. The planes, currently laid out in an all-coach configuration, will have 14 first class seats and 128 economy seats. Delta said the open seating policy currently used on the Shuttle flights will remain in place after the changeover. “SkyMiles Medallion members will be eligible for complimentary upgrades on Delta Shuttle flights; first class seats will also be available for sale via normal ticketing channels,” the airline said. Delta said the first class cabins will offer more snack options, a greater variety of free cocktails, and wider seats. In addition, Delta said that by next spring, all aircraft in the Shuttle fleet will be equipped with Aircell’s Gogo system of in-flight WiFi access for customers with wireless-enabled laptops and other devices. The service will be offered at a flat fee of $9.95 per flight.
