New design will go into 767s, 777s
According to various foreign press reports and blogs, Delta has contracted with U.K.-based Thompson Solutions to install a new kind of economy class seating in its 767ER and 777s by 2010. Called the Thompson Cozy Suite, the seats feature a staggered configuration, so that the person next to the window can get into the aisle without asking his seatmates to get up. The staggered layout also permits increased seat width of 20 inches. The base of the seat tips up, like movie seats, so it’s easier for persons in window and middle seats to board. And the seats are much less bulky than existing models, providing a couple of extra inches of legroom without increasing seat pitch. For individual comfort, the seatbacks are contoured and each seat comes with two armrests instead of the traditional shared armrests in between seats.
