Design flaws: Aircraft
Here's what readers don't like about the planes they spend so much time in.
Misaligned or badly aimed individual seat lights on airplanes.
Windows that are terribly placed—too low, and often ahead of or behind the seat.
Headrests without “wings” to support the head on either side.
Headrests that don’t fit a tall or short person either when seated or reclining.
Airplane sinks that drain only when a button is pushed.
Very dim seat lights on airplanes or seat lights that can’t be re-aimed.
Airbus aircraft with row numbers that require most people to stoop to read them.
The fixed armrest near the window, which is too narrow to be useful and in the way when leaning on the wall.
Airplane bathrooms barely big enough to stand in.
Lack of individual air vents (on non-U.S. airlines).
The storage pocket located by the passenger’s knees, where space is already tight.
Armrests with A/V controls on the inner side of the armrest, where they’re difficult to see and access.
A/V controls on top of the armrest, so that you inadvertently change the channel when using the armrest.
Placement of overhead bins on 747s (with three rows of center seats, accessing the overhead lockers above 2A and 2K is almost impossible if someone is occupying seats below).
Footrests in C class on some A330s, which are uncomfortable for people taller than five feet.
Coach bathrooms located right behind the last row of business class.
Touchscreen in-flight entertainment systems, resulting in constant back taps for the person in the seat ahead.
