Dining high in the air
The latest frontier in business entertainment
Let’s face it—it’s easy to get tired of corporate sponsored meals in meeting rooms and ballrooms. Fortunately, there s a surefire way to keep everyone’s attention: Dinner in the Sky (dinnerinthesky.com), an unusual concept. Diners sit outside at a 22-seat table that is hoisted up and held 160 feet in the air by a crane. For safety, guests are strapped in like race car drivers, but their legs dangle free. The seats recline and even rotate 180 degrees for a great view.
On a platform in the center, a chef prepares the food, while two waiters serve it. The Dinner in the Sky contraption is rented out in Belgium, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey and South Africa (and other countries, including the U.S., upon request) for eight-hour blocks, which can be divided into one hour sessions. Dinner in the Sky can be used for product launches and corporate functions--just as long as there isn’t much of a breeze. Sponsors can increase their visibility by adding banners and logos underneath the seats, in case a table suspended 160 feet in the air doesn’t attract enough attention.
What happens when diners need to use the restroom? The table can be lowered between courses. The Dinner in the Sky table is available on an event by event basis from the Fun Group, although one hotel in Dubai may permanently affix one to its roof.
