Fewer free bags at Southwest
Southwest reduces free checked baggage allowance
Starting January 29, Southwest will no longer let passengers check three bags at no cost. Instead, the limit will be two checked bags; the third checked bag will incur a $25 fee, and if you have to check four through nine pieces of luggage, each one will cost $50. The maximum weight for checked luggage is 50 pounds, and maximum size is a total of 62 inches (length plus width plus height). Bags that weigh in at 51 to 70 pounds will cost $25, and anything heavier (up to 100 pounds) or exceeding the size limit costs $50 per item.
