Green airlines
Carriers consider carbon offsets
Many segments of the travel industry are making an effort to “go green” this year. Delta Air Lines customers can make a donation to The ConservationFund when they purchase a ticket at delta.com. The recommended amount is $5.50 for domestic round-trip flights and $11 for international round-trips, which the fund uses to plant trees in the U.S. and abroad. Continental Airlines has partnered with Sustainable Travel International to launch a voluntary carbon calculation and offset tool through the carrier’s Web site. The all-business-class transatlantic airline Silverjet automatically puts roughly $28 from each round-trip ticket into a fund for climate-friendly projects around the world.
