InterContinental comes to San Francisco; London’s Savoy closes

A February debut is planned for San Francisco’s largest new hotel in 20 years – the 550-room InterContinental San Francisco, located next to the Moscone West Convention Center at Howard and Fifth streets …At Sutter and Powell streets in San Francisco, the former Crowne Plaza Hotel is now the Hotel 480, operated by Marriott International … San Diego has a new Hard Rock Hotel, and will soon welcome The Setai San Diego, a five-star luxury condo hotel … In Portland, Ore., the former Four Points by Sheraton is being rebranded as the Hotel Fifty, operated by Coastal Hotel Group, and undergoing a six-month renovation … In Texas, a February opening is planned for the Hyatt Regency North Dallas/Richardson, in the region’s “telecom corridor” … Washington D.C.’s historic Hotel Washington has closed its doors for a year-long conversion into a W hotel … The former Hotel@MIT in Cambridge, Mass., is now Le Meridien Cambridge, part of the Starwood family … And in Detroit, Embassy Suites has opened a new hotel near Metro Airport in Romulus, Mich.

Overseas, London’s renowned 118-year-old Savoy Hotel has shut down for a 16-month renovation … In London’s West End, Radisson Edwardian Hotels – an affiliate of Radisson – has cut the ribbon on the new four-star Radisson Edwardian Leicester Square Hotel … Spain’s Barcelo Hotels has opened the Barcelo Cologne City Center Hotel in Germany … Stockholm’s classic Grand Hotel is now a member of InterContinental Hotels and has been renamed the Grand Hotel InterContinental Stockholm … In Asia, Ritz-Carlton has opened a new hotel atop the Pacific Place Mall in Jakarta, Indonesia, and The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing in that city’s China Central Place development … Also in China, Shangri-La Hotels has opened a luxury property in Chengdu … In Singapore, Fairmont Hotels has opened the Fairmont Singapore in Raffles City, 20 minutes form Changi Airport … Fairmont has also moved into Kenya, taking over Nairobi’s historic Norfolk Hotel and rebranding it as Fairmont The Norfolk … In Latin America, Doubletree Hotels has added the Doubletree Cariari by Hilton in San Jose, Costa Rica, five miles from the city’s airport and seven miles from the city center … The Holiday Inn in San Pedro Sulas, Honduras, has been converted into a Crowne Plaza.
