Indianapolis' new airport terminal
Facility with 40 gates opens this fall
Indianapolis International Airport is leaping into the 21st century. The airport expects to open a new terminal in late 2008, replacing the existing 34-gate terminal opened in 1957. The new terminal will feature a 1.2-million square-foot steel-and-glass pavilion, a grand central hall accessible to both passengers and visitors, and a five-story window wall with a view of downtown Indianapolis. The terminal will have 40 gates, with the ability to expand to 100 gates, and about 90,000 square feet of retail space, double the amount in the existing terminal. The terminal was also designed with green features, like semi-opaque skylights, glass curtain walls and a radiant heating and cooling system in the floor. The redevelopment project is projected to cost $1.1 billion.|
