Indianapolis opens new terminal

Airlines shift operations this week

Indianapolis International Airport this week will shift all passenger and flight operations into its new terminal. In fact, the overall construction project is giving the city virtually a new airport. Besides the new passenger terminal, there’s a new air traffic control tower, new parking facilities, and new road access from Interstate 70. Flight operations should be completely moved into the new terminal by Wednesday (November 12). The new 1.2 million square foot terminal has two 20-gate concourses, and it comes with more than three dozen food and retail concessions, including some from the old terminal and some new ones. Among the restaurants are the Indianapolis 500 Grill, a sit-down facility with an adjacent collectible store and Indy 500 museum; Harry & Izzy’s; Patachou on the Fly; Shapiro’s Delicatessen; 96th Street Steakburgers; Giorgio’s Pizza; and others. Eight local museums and cultural institutions have joined forces to open Cultural Crossroads, which will be a retail store that also offers exhibitions and cultural demonstrations. Additional concessions include Harley-Davidson, Brooks Brothers, CNBC, Pacific Outfitters, Brookstone, Au Bon Pain, Qdoba, Johnston & Murphy and Cold Stone Creamery, among others.
