Japanese Restaurants in São Paulo
Japanese immigrants began to arrive in São Paulo from 1908—many came from rural areas of Japan, enticed by jobs on the coffee plantations. Today, the city has around 1.5m citizens of Japanese descent, the largest Japanese community outside of Japan. The Japanese neighbourhood, Liberdade, has its own underground station. The Liberdade Square gets lively every sunday for the Japanese arts and crafts fair were you can bye all kinds of traditional Japanese arts and crafts .
Kinoshita
Address: Rua da Glória 168, Liberdade
In the heart of the Japanese neighborhood, this spot is popular for its tasting menu. Closed Sunday.
Nagayama
Addresses: Rua Bandeira Paulista 369
Rua da Consolação 3397, Cerqueira César
Nagayama serves excellent sushi and sashimi. The California uramaki Philadelphia has rice, cream cheese, grilled salmon, roe, cucumber, and spring onions rolled together.
Nakombi
Address: Rua Pequetita
The name is a reference to the exotic decoration: the chefs prepare sushi from a kombi (which is an old Volkswagen van) in the middle of the dining room. Tables are surrounded by a small artificial river teeming with fish. The menu includes a good variety of sushi and nonsushi dishes.
