Entrance is through historic TWA building

After many months of construction, JetBlue Airways is expected to cut the ribbon on its new Terminal 5 home at New York’s Kennedy Airport on or about October 1. It’s right next door to the existing JetBlue facility, and is probably best known for its entryway – the curved, futuristic building designed by Eero Saarinen that used to be the old TWA terminal. According to The New York Times, the terminal will feature several “serious restaurants” with menus designed by New York-area chefs of note. These will include an Italian trattoria called AeroNuova; a sushi and Asian place known as Deep Blue; a brasserie known as LaVie; a tapas eatery called Piquillo; and Revolucion, a Mexican restaurant. Instead of offering white-tablecloth dining, the newspaper said, “Much of the seating will be at counters or communal tables, without fancy linens. Some will have open kitchens, and reservations will not be taken.” All will be on the far side of TSA checkpoints, so travelers won’t have to rush their meals for an uncertain amount of waiting time in security lines. Meanwhile, airport concessionaire The Paradies Shops, which will operate retail concessions at Terminal 5, said its offerings will include a sports-themed store from Sports Radio 66 WFAN, with licensed merchandise from local teams; a CNBC store with news displayed on multiple flat screens; a LaCoste boutique; a Brighton Collectibles shop with women’s accessories; and BlueSky Traders, selling newspapers, books, magazines, convenience items, snacks, bottled water and more.
