JetBlue terminal gets a classic entrance
Renowned TWA building at JFK will be preserved
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved spending $19 million to restore and reopen the classic old TWA terminal at JFK Airport. Designed by famed architect Eero Saarinen, the building’s sweeping curves were ground-breaking for an airport when the former Terminal 5 opened 46 years ago. It has been sitting empty for several years. But JetBlue Airways is currently building a new Terminal 5 for its own use, located just behind the old TWA building. When the new JetBlue terminal opens this fall, passengers will be able to access it through the restored TWA terminal, and will have the option of checking in at a kiosk in the Saarinen building.
