Kill a goat, save a 757
Unique 757 maintenance procedure in Nepal
Here’s an aircraft maintenance method that you won’t find in Boeing’s technical manuals. According to a Reuters story from Kathmandu, Nepal Airlines was having repeated technical problems with one of its two 757s, keeping the plane out of service for several days. Since the mechanics couldn’t seem to solve the problem, they turned to a traditional Nepalese solution – they killed a pair of goats as a sacrifice to the Hindu sky god Akash Bhairab. The event took place at Kathmandu’s airport. There was no word on whether the ritual was effective in fixing the aircraft’s problems.
