Las Vegas McCarran adds security lanes, gates

Additions affect C, D concourses

Travelers using Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport will find extra security screening lanes and more gates after the completion of two expansion projects. In the first, the airport installed 12 new security lanes at its C Annex Security Checkpoint , just south of the first floor ticketing lobby. The expansion “allows TSA to dedicate up to 17 of the 19 existing lanes at McCarran’s C/D checkpoint for the screening of travelers headed to the airport’s busy D concourse,” a spokesman said. The second project is in that D concourse, where construction has been finished on a $179 million northwest wing that adds nine more gates to the facility, giving the D concourse a total of 44 aircraft gates for the 16 airlines that use it. The new D wing also adds eight new food, beverage and retail concessions for travelers. The new additions are just part of a longer-term improvement plan at McCarran that will include the construction of a post-security pedestrian bridge linking the A, B and C concourses, and eventually the addition of a new 14-gate Terminal 3, due to open in 2012.
