Process could take a year or more
Mexicana said it has accepted an invitation to join the global Oneworld alliance, which includes American Airlines and British Airways, among others. The process of becoming a full member is expected to take 12 to 18 months, Mexicana said. The addition of Mexicana will strengthen Oneworld’s reach into Mexico and Central America, adding 26 new destinations to Oneworld’s network. The Mexicana membership also includes its subsidiary Click Mexicana. In the past year, the Oneworld alliance has added a number of new members, including Japan Airlines, Malev Hungarian and Royal Jordanian as full members, and LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador, Dragonair and five Japan Airlines affiliates as affiliates. Mexicana’s largest hub outside of Mexico is at Los Angeles International Airport.
