Midwest Airlines
Airline Code: YX
Headquarters: Milwaukee, WI
Mailing Address: 6744 S. Howell Avenue, Oak Creek, WI 53154-1402
History: The origins of Midwest Airlines lie within the corporate travel department of Wisconsin based Kimberly-Clark, which as early as 1948 began providing corporate air transportation for executives traveling between headquarters and the company’s numerous mills. This experience in operating an in-house corporate air shuttle, lead to the formation of K C Aviation in 1969 which provided specialized and customized corporate travel and aviation solutions. With the deregulation of the airline industry in 1978, it was decided to turn K C Aviation into a commercial carrier and the reborn airline emerged as Midwest Express Airlines in June of 1984. Executing a plan of moderate growth, the new airline went public in 1995 while also opening new bases in Omaha and then Kansas City in the 1990s. In 2003 the carrier simplified its name to Midwest Airlines.
