Singapore announces Houston-Moscow route; eyes U.S.-London
Singapore Airlines, which currently operates daily transatlantic service from New York JFK to Frankfurt and onward to Singapore, has announced its second transatlantic route: Houston-Moscow, also continuing on to Singapore. The airline said it will begin the new service on March 20, 2008, operating four days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) to Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport. Singapore will use a three-class 777-300 Extended Range aircraft. Meanwhile, according to press reports form the U.K., the governments of Great Britain and Singapore have signed a new aviation agreement that not only lifts restrictions on air services between the two, but also gives Singapore Airlines the right to fly between the U.K. and the U.S. – something it has been trying to get for years. Singapore has plans to put the new Airbus A380 super-jumbo onto the London-Singapore route in February, and reportedly wants to fly the new aircraft on to the U.S. as well. However, it has as yet been unable to obtain the necessary slots at congested Heathrow Airport for transatlantic flights.
