Star Alliance will reportedly add EgyptAir
The global Star Alliance -- which includes United, Lufthansa and Air Canada, among others – will take on EgyptAir as its 21st member carrier, according to a report in Air Transport World, an airline trade journal. The publication said EgyptAir is expected to join the alliance within 18 months – and that the new Terminal 3 now under construction at Cairo International Airport will serve as home to all the Star Alliance carriers operating there, which include Austrian, bmi, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Swiss and THY. The addition of Egyptair will add nine new destinations to Star’s global network. Other airlines already in the pipeline to become Star members are Air China, Shanghai Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
