Philadelphia's nightlife is very diverse. There is a bar for every mood. For a quiet pub visit McGillin's Ale House in Center City. For a trendy atmosphere go to Continental Mid-Town on 19th or Public House at 13th and Arch. The Black Sheep on 17th St has a nice friendly crowd. Monks near 17th St has a great selection of beers. The Plough and Stars on 2nd st in Old City is an Irish Pub with a cool ceiling and lots of coziness. Mad River on Chestnut is loud but popular with the 30 somethings. Buffalo Billiards offers a chance to play pool. Philly is a wonderful city to sit and have a beer with the locals.
I love City Tavern also. It is so unique to the city.
