Porter Airlines to add Toronto-U.S. routes

Carrier sets new service to Chicago

Porter Airlines, a Canadian carrier that currently flies multiple daily roundtrips between its Toronto base and Newark Liberty International Airport, plans to add its second U.S. route next month, with more to come. The company said it will inaugurate Toronto-Chicago Midway service November 12, starting with three daily flights on weekdays and increasing to six on January 8. Porter flies 70-seat Bombardier Q400s, turboprops that deliver much better fuel efficiency than comparable regional jets – the same type of aircraft some U.S. airlines are turning to for shorter hauls, like Horizon Air and Frontier’s new Lynx Aviation subsidiary. “Expanded service to further U.S. destinations such as Boston, Washington and Philadelphia is planned as additional aircraft are delivered over the next 18 months,” a spokesman said. Unlike its competitors, Porter Airlines flies into Toronto’s City Centre Airport, which is virtually right downtown. The airline also offers flights between that airport and other Canadian destinations including Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Mt. Tremblant.
