Ask Randy
Randy Petersen answers reader questions about how to maximize travel-related loyalty programs.
Dear Randy, I’m a frequent flier to Shanghai, China. Every year my husband, son and I visit there. The airlines we’re using are NWA, China Airlines, ANA and Asiana. I’m wondering if you would know any mileage reward program that will benefit us.
You’re on the right track and can continue to fly the airlines you have named. I would suggest you join two frequent flier programs and link these programs to the airlines you have listed. First, I suggest you join the Delta SkyMiles program. This program partners with both NWA and China Airlines. When you get your membership number, ask your travel agent to enter the Delta SkyMiles number when flying either NWA or China Airlines. I also suggest you enroll in the United Mileage Plus program, and when flying either ANA or Asiana, enter your United Mileage Plus number. Because of global alliances, you can earn many miles locally, even though you are flying all over the world.
Like you, I love Shanghai.
