WHERE TO STAY
From stately and historic to sleek and chic, these hotels are some of the best places to bunk in D.C. All are accessible to U Street.

WHERE TO EAT
Ben’s Chili Bowl
1213 U Street NW, 202-667-0909; benschilibowl.com
“The Bowl” has been a U Street stalwart since 1958, having survived the ’60s riots that left the area in shambles. Today, the tiny family-owned and -operated eatery is still going strong as the place for hot dogs, shakes and fresh homemade chili. It’s open nearly 24/7, closing at 4 a.m. on weekends and reopening at 6 a.m. (except on Sunday).
Marvin
2007 14th Street NW, 202-797-7171; marvindc.com
The newest addition to the Corridor scene, this bistro-type restaurant and bar has quickly become a see-and-be-seen place for young professionals. Built into a once ailing row house, the downstairs offers a full bar with tables stretching to the back of the narrow building, while the upstairs opens to a covered back deck and outside bar.
Tabaq Bistro
1336 U Street NW, 202-265-0965; tabaqdc.com
Brothers Omer and Melih Buyukbayrak own this Mediterranean-inspired tapas restaurant at the heart of the U Street Corridor. Climbing the four flights of stairs to the rooftop is a workout, but the view from the glass-enclosed roof is one of the best in the city. Dine on stuffed grape leaves with pine nuts and rice, charcuterie or seafood risotto while enjoying views of the Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol Dome.
Vinoteca
1940 11th Street NW, 202-332-9463; vinotecadc.com
This two-story wine bar and restaurant is a casually chic place featuring more than 60 wines by the bottle or glass. Try the shrimp and gorgonzola grits with lime or the lamb with feta and eggplant slider.
