Registered Traveler comes to Oakland
Program now in all three Bay Area airports
Oakland International Airport is the latest facility to open expedited security clearance lanes for members of the Registered Traveler program. The Oakland lanes are part of the Clear program operated by Verified Identity Pass, which says it now has more than 25,000 members in the Bay Area. Oakland is the third major airport in the San Francisco area to implement Registered Traveler, along with San Francisco International and San Jose. Members must undergo pre-screening by the Transportation Security Administration; then they are issued a special ID card with biometric identification like an electronic fingerprint or iris scan. Membership costs $100 a year plus a $28 TSA processing fee.
