San Jose adds free WiFi

Service available airport-wide

As the gateway to California’s Silicon Valley, you’d expect Mineta San Jose International Airport to be the site of a lot of web surfing and other Internet activity. And now travelers can do that for free. The airport has launched free full-service wireless Internet access in all public areas of Terminal A and Terminal C, except for the Terminal A baggage claim area. The commercial (i.e., not free) WiFi service already provided at the airport by T-Mobile and Wayport will continue to be available to subscribers of those services, airport officials said. They added that the free WiFi will be extended in the airport’s new Terminal B and North Concourse after construction is completed on those areas. The airport’s WiFi “offers 24-hour toll-free customer support for assistance in wireless access and usage, and it allows customers to avoid the potential security concerns of wireless access by activating Hotspot Shield, a free security application from AnchorFree that establishes a virtual private network to keep WiFi secure and anonymous for users,” the airport said.
