Report: Air India might apply to join Star Alliance
The Star Alliance might soon have a new partner in India. According to the trade journal Air Transport World, the board of Air India has voted to apply for membership in the global alliance, which includes United, Lufthansa, Air Canada and other airlines. Air India recently merged with the domestic carrier Indian Airlines, giving it India’s largest international/domestic network. The decision was reportedly communicated to India’s Parliament by its Civil Aviation Minister; there has been no official announcement yet from the airline.
