Sun Country dismisses raid on owner's offices

Says it won't affect airline's operations

Minneapolis-St. Paul-based Sun Country Airlines issued a statement last week reassuring customers that the company “will continue to fly its regular scheduled and charter service with no effect on operations or schedule.” The airline apparently felt the statement was necessary after local media reported on a raid of the airline’s parent company by as many as 50 federal agents. The majority owner of Sun Country is Petters Group Worldwide, headed by Tom Petters – whose home in the Minneapolis suburbs was also raided and searched. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, federal agents wouldn’t say what they were looking for, and the search warrants were sealed by the federal court., However, the newspaper said it was told by a spokeswoman for Petters Group that the investigation involved “one financial entity that Petters is involved with,” but not Sun Country or his other businesses. “It is business as usual here at Sun Country, and we do not anticipate any impact from these events,” said Stan Gadek, the airline’s CEO.
